Approximately 80% (or over 16 million) Australians will at some time suffer from some form of back pain. It can become a serious problem if left untreated, yet despite this fact, most cases of back pain are treatable. With the busy lifestyles that we live today, back pain sufferers turn to quick fixes such as over-the-counter or prescription medication to keep their back pain under control. While medication can mask some of the pain, it is a temporary solution that doesn’t correct the underlying cause of the problem. It also should not be used as a long-term treatment as there are possibly serious side effects, which include liver or kidney complications and in extreme cases, even death.
People suffering from any severity of back pain in Sydney, should consider Chiropractic adjustments as the best treatment option to find and correct any imbalances in the spine that may be affecting proper disc, nerve, and muscle function and thus causing pain. As a practicing Chiropractor in Sydney for over 15 years, I specialise in natural and conservative methods of back pain relief and have successfully treated thousands of patients with varying degrees of back pain, including pain between the shoulder blades, neck pain, lower back pain, and pelvic pain. In many cases, patients with severe symptoms have allowed minor aches to progress for long periods, using medications to hide pain, and thinking the problem would eventually go away.
Chiropractic is a safe, gentle and effective treatment choice for back pain, providing either much improvement in the short term, or longer term relief without side-effects. In recent months, some insurance companies in the United States are requesting that patients consult with a Chiropractor before turning to surgical treatments for back pain, as Chiropractic adjustments are safer and more cost-effective, and also do not disrupt the patient’s normal activities or lifestyle. Chiropractic is safe for people of all ages – whether infants, adults, or the elderly – and will successfully relieve back pain in the vast majority of cases without the need for drugs or surgical intervention.

Below is an extract from an ABC news bulletin:
A report to be published in the Medical Journal of Australia, says medical doctors across the country are failing to properly treat the four in five Australians who suffer from back pain.
Professor Rachelle Buchbinder from Monash University, says back pain costs Australians more than $8 billion a year. “It’s very expensive,” she said. “Of all the diseases in Australia, it’s one of the top 20 burden-imposing diseases…We know that about 50 per cent of the long-term costs of workers compensation is driven by disability from back pain.”
