Lower Back Pain Early Pregnancy
Our Sydney CBD Chiropractor can help women suffering from lower back pain early in pregnancy, and up to the very last stages of pregnancy. Other conditions that may be helped include sciatica, indigestion or heartburn, or avoiding a difficult birth due to back pain.
Our Sydney Chiropractor helps lower back pain early in pregnancy by maintaining your spinal and pelvic alignment. When misaligned, these create an imbalance in surrounding muscles and ligaments. The Chiropractor can use specific Chiropractic analysis and adjustments to reduce the effects of these misalignments. In doing so, function of the spine and pelvis is improved.

Effects of Pregnancy
During pregnancy, a woman’s centre of gravity moves forward to the front of her pelvis (see picture above), causing lower back pain early in pregnancy. As the baby grows, the added weight causes the curve of her lower back to increase, placing extra stress on the joints of the pelvis and low back. Any pre-existing problems in the low back tend to be exacerbated as the spine and pelvis are overloaded, often leading to pain and difficulty performing normal daily duties.
Studies have found that about 50% of all expectant mothers develop low-back pain at some point during their pregnancies, especially during the third trimester when the baby’s body gains the most weight.
Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy can help relieve and even prevent the pain and discomfort often experienced in pregnancy, and creates an environment for an easier, safer delivery. It is a safe and effective way to help the spine and pelvis handle the increase in physical demands. Women commonly find that Chiropractic care helps them avoid the use of pain medications during pregnancy, and studies have shown that Chiropractic adjustments help to reduce time in labour.
Our Sydney pregnancy Chiropractor should be your partner for a healthy pregnancy, and can provide lower back pain relief early in pregnancy, keep correct spinal alignment, as well as offer nutritional, ergonomic and exercise advice to help address your special needs.
Chiropractic tips for pregnant women:
Be sure to get adjusted regularly. Chiropractic care is important to help maintain a healthy spinal and pelvic structure and nervous system function throughout a pregnancy and childbirth.
Do some gentle exercise each day. Walking, swimming, or cycling are relatively safe exercises for pregnant women. Avoid activities that involve jerky movements. Stop exercising immediately if you have any unusual symptoms such as nausea, dizziness or weakness.
Your feet become more susceptible to injury during pregnancy, partly due to increasing body weight, but also because the ligaments that support the feet become more lax. Wearing flat shoes with arch supports will help. A custom made orthotic may also be quite beneficial to maintain your foots arch, and our Sydney Chiropractor can provide these for you.
When picking up children, bend from the knees, not the waist. Your low back is much more prone to injury during pregnancy.
When sleeping, lay on your side with a pillow between your knees to take pressure off your lower back. Full-length body pillows can be helpful.
